<text>The study investigated the organizational culture and its effect on project success using a sample from construction industries in Ghana. Using a correlational research design, data were collected from 250 participants of five construction companies in Ghana using reliable research questionnaires. Standard multiple regression and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted on the data. The results showed that, organisational culture was significantly and positively related to project success. Consistent with the dimensions of organizational culture, the study found culture producing a strong effect on project success. It has also been manifested in the study that when employees feel like a family (i.e. community culture), then, they feel that the organisation is part of them and thus, work hard to ensure that the goals of the organisation are accomplished.(Burton 2012)
Similarly, when the culture of innovation is encouraged, then, people tend to be creative, take proactive measures and reasonable risks in order to accomplish organisational goals. Further, cultures that are characterized by efficient communication systems, well-defined and achievable tasks, comfortable work environment and autonomy are more likely to lead to a highly successful project. It is therefore clear that, culture have an impact on project success in the selected construction companies in Ghana.

<text>Building Information Modelling (BIM) has evolved in definitions and concepts over the past three decades to becoming an information technology strategy and productivity tool in the
architectural engineering and construction (AEC) industry. Globally, the construction industry is considered one of the largest, with a key feature of bringing together a multidisciplinary
group of professionals that usually face great challenges with coordination. In Ghana, the construction industry has experienced these challenges impacting its rate of productivity. The main objective of this work was to assess the preparedness of the Ghanaian construction industry for the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) looking at four key
assessments – level of BIM awareness, level of BIM preparedness towards implementation, perceived BIM implementation benefit and lastly, challenges/barriers associated with BIM
adoption and implementation. Adopting and using qualitative research methodologies, an online survey was conducted targeting relevant stakeholders in industry and academia. Data
analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical analysis to reveal perceptions, ratings/rankings, and frequencies based on categorical and coded Likert-scale data types. The results show that majority of industry players have a conceptual knowledge than of applied knowledge when it comes to the level of awareness of BIM. Generally, the preparedness of Ghana towards the implementation of BIM can be rated as “Pre-BIM Capable”. In essence Ghana is not implementing BIM from the results of the analysis. The analysis also points to the fact that a successful implementation of BIM in Ghana will be extremely beneficial and
will impact positively on productivity in the industry. It is highly recommended amongst others that steps should be taken to commission a body of professionals to critically review cost
benefits ratios and recommend an action plan that leads to a strategic blueprint for BIM implementation in Ghana. This work was limited by having a number of no responses given to some of the issues and can be attributed to the possible newness in the area of research or field.

<text>The study assessed the various maintenance practices available at MODEC Ghana and top management support and contribution to operational performance. In order to assess the effects that the quality of maintenance management practices has operational performance. Primary data obtained from engineers, maintenance supervisors, technicians and top level managers was used for the analysis. Descriptive statistics using the relative importance index method and regression analysis was performed on the obtained data. SPSS and Microsoft Excel were used for the data analysis. The findings revealed that MODEC Ghana Ltd has adopted ten (10) key maintenance management practices in its operations. Out of these ten practices, five emerged as the most frequently used. They are preventive maintenance, computer based management maintenance, scheduled maintenance, productive maintenance and condition based maintenance. It emerged also from the findings that top managers at MODEC Ghana Ltd contributed tremendously towards effective implementation of maintenance management practices. Key areas that their contributions were highly rated by respondents are budgetary allocation, their ability to make provision for technical training, provision of contemporary tools or equipment and provision of expert diagnostic or trouble shooting systems among others. From the result it emerged that “non-occurrence of accidents” and “reduction in the overall plant operation cost are the two major benefit of maintenance management that contributed positively to operational performance at MODEC Ghana Ltd. Maintenance practice have also resulted to “efficiency of the machines” and has reduced the occurrence of forced shutdowns counts per month, and increased plant reliability at MODEC. However if maintenance management is not done properly it can lead to machinery breakdown which can extend to plant shutdown.
The regression results revealed that preventive maintenance, computer based management maintenance, scheduled maintenance, productive maintenance and condition based maintenance explained a positive and significant association with operational performance.

<text>Ensuring Total Quality in the construction industry has been seen as the degree of excellence in meeting customer requirements or specifications. But it is not achieved most of the time mainly due to factors such as the employment of unqualified human resource; lack of compliance to standards, structural defects, deterioration as a result of abandonment of buildings, dampness, cracks, leakages, among others. The main objective of this study is to examine challenges in constructing building projects in the context of Total Quality Management Principles (TQM). The study examined the impact of ensuring compliance to Total Quality Management (TQM) principles by concentrating on four resource factors; Human, financial, equipment and material resources. The study adopted a quantitative method approach and used a survey research design. Research questions were sent out to gather data from respondents. SPSS was used to analyze the data with regards to factors that prohibit compliance of TQM Principles. The study found out that compliance is compromised when there are inadequate materials, lack of motivation and allowance for workers, and lack of advanced equipment. Moreover, it was found out that there are negative correlations between equipment, financial and material resources and challenges in implementing TQM. The researcher recommended that management must ensure Quality Assurances by conforming to and implementing ISO 9000 and concept of resource compliance</text>

<text>This research study sought to identify factors influencing completion of construction projects. The research objectives were; to determine how contract duration influences completion of construction projects, to investigate whether project financing influences completion of construction projects in Accra to examine how planning influences completion of small construction projects in Accra to find out how supervision of work influences completion of construction projects in Accra to assess how the type of project delivery chosen influences completion of construction projects in Accra. The research adopted descriptive and explorative, or correlative. The sample population includes architects, quantity surveyors, structural engineers, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, land surveyors construction project managers and private developers. The findings showed that project cost increased by an average of 13.5%, while project duration increased by 33.6%. 98% of respondents believe project financing and inspection/ supervision, influence completion of construction projects. 73% and 71%, respectively gave the information that construction contract duration and project delivery type chosen respectively influence the completion of construction projects..The recommendations include project managers need to engage project stakeholders all through project lifetime. Competent project managers should be involved in projects while clients should provide adequate project financing. Contractors should not have cash flow problems and project teams should be trained on project success factors. A quality culture in construction, industry should be encouraged. Every stakeholder in construction projectimplementation should be sensitized to the reality that projects will most likely suffer delay in contract duration and definitely increase in project costs.</text>

<text>The need for air condition companies to implement lean in the delivery of services is one that cannot be overlooked. Growth in any industry is linked to satisfaction given to customers of that
industry. The key to maintaining a competitive advantage in service delivery can be attributed to the implementation of lean techniques and principles. This study assesses lean implementation in the after sales service of the air condition
industry using Cold Temperatures Limited as a case study. This assessment is done by applying lean techniques and principles in the minimization of waste. A brief background of lean principles and techniques by various authors is presented which includes both empirical and theoretical review of the literature.
Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. Observations were done and questionnaires administered randomly to active customers of Cold Temperatures Limited
after calculating the sample size using Yamane’s (1967) formula. Furthermore, data collection was done by walking the shop floor and recording the processing and lead times for service delivery.
SPSS and Excel were used to generate tables and charts which helped in analysing data obtained and also identify the wastes within the company. The Pareto chart and cause and effect
diagram were also used to analyse the causes of the wastes in Cold Temperatures Limited. The takt time was calculated after drawing the current state of Cold Temperatures Limited with the
value stream map. This helped in the determination of the pace of service delivery. A future state map was then drawn indicating the improvement needed areas after which lean technique was
applied in the minimization of the wastes identified.
In conclusion, the researcher observed the service delivery of Cold Temperatures Limited
to be poor due to several factors and therefore recommended the maintenance and delivery
preparation departments to be joined together in order to eliminate the waste of motion between
these departments.</text>

<text>Construction project cost escalation and delays don’t just occur, they are caused by factors on the part of either the client, consultant, contractor or the external. These factors, when critically assessed, can be eliminated or mitigated. Construction cost and time overruns are very detrimental to all the stake holders involved as it brings loss of revenue, increase in project cost and delays economic development of a nation. This study seeks to identify and assess critical factors that cause time and cost overruns in the Ghana road construction projects from the perspectives of client, consultants and contractors. The researcher administered questionnaires to stakeholders from both government and non-government organizations who were within the Accra Metropolis. Data collected was analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. This study also provides ways to mitigate these factors and improve the productivity of the construction companies. This study was carried out through an extensive review of related cost and time overruns literatures and through a survey study using in-depth questionnaires to elicit the views of respondents who have the knowledge and experience in the field of road construction.</text>

<text>In the Niger Delta Region today, we have a poorly diversified economy due to the over reliance on oil assets. To make matters worse these oil assets are continually harvested in a manner that is degrading the environment with low levels of returns to the economy at large. While the government has tried to set up a proper developmental plan with the commissioning of the Niger Delta development commission (NDDC), there has been challenges in doing this as some problems prevent effective execution of this plan. This study will assess these problems with a view of finding a root cause and then establishing a resolution or control for these problems. A targeted sample size of 399 respondents as people of Niger Delta representing nine states involving Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, Abia, Imo and Edo State were all sampled using stratified sampling technique, this was done to get a general view of the reasons for the failure of the different agencies in proffering lasting solution to the lingering crises and agitation for commensurate development in the Niger Delta. The arithmetical approaches of measurements used here were regularity distributions, percentages, means and standard deviations.
The study found that lack of proper education of the people, lack of air pollution control and devices by industries, poor enforcement of the administrative management and regulatory agency are the major challenges hampering the development of this constituency by these agencies. Also, the culture of the people of the Niger Delta seem not to respect human dignity and decency since it has been left un-catered for decades while exploration has continued, the present government efforts is not enough to assure the people of the promised sustainable development based on the corruption culture bedevilling all government agencies.</text>

<text>Projects monitoring and evaluation provide stakeholders with ceaseless inputs for the implementation, execution, interval and terminal assessments of ongoing projects. It has been established that monitoring and evaluation is an aspect of project management that needs the commitment of all stakeholders involved in the project. In Ghana, efforts are being made to monitor and evaluate projects to ensure favorable outcome and minimize wastage. This research study focuses on examining the role and challenges of monitoring and evaluation of Tema Development Corporation Projects using FOAT.
The researcher adopted the both descriptive and quantitative analysis as a methodology. In view of that, questionnaires were administered to various professionals on board projects within the TDC’s domain. This approach was considered because it offers better investigation and in-depth examining of issues to get required responses. Findings from the research revealed that the M&E roles played by staff in TDC were not enough to support effective and efficient M&E management on TDC projects. The application of FOAT assessment tool was found to be difficult in terms of usage in the M & E activities of TDC, this exposed the fact that there was no clear effectiveness and credibility that the monitoring and evaluation activities of TDC’s M&E and National
Integrated M&E promotes and strengthens connectedness and collaboration in governance. Responses from the questionnaires administered goes further to prove that there was lack of clear
roles and effective organizational structures within TDC’s monitoring and evaluation activities. The final Outcome Measurement of projects undertaken by TDC was the key indicator in measuring projects by the corporation. This study was the first of its kind since the FOAT is commonly used only by municipal and district assemblies rather than other state owned
enterprises. The study did not extend to the development of M&E theories. This study goes further to make recommendations on the possible means to curb these challenges and measures to implement effective M&E practices using the FOAT as an assessment tool.
